With Uncharted: The Lost Legacy coming out in August, expectations are high about the upcoming expansion. While the creators at Naughty Dog had started out to make a DLC to Uncharted 4, it turned out that they could do a lot more with the storyline they had settled for. But the questions on everyone’s mind is: what does this mean for the future of the Uncharted series as a whole, and more specifically, the Uncharted 5 release date?
Speaking to Shaun Escayg of Naughty Dog, Eurogamer’s Tom Phillips drew some incredible remarks from the writer and creative director of The Lost Legacy about what could be in store for those waiting to hear about an Uncharted 5 announcemnt. When asked how many from the Santa Monica studio were working on the upcoming DLC, Escayg said that work on The Last of Us Part 2 is currently moving at a slow pace as the studio is prioritizing The Lost Legacy.
Phillips continued to talk about the expectations that fans had surrounding the Uncharted series, and what the new DLC meant for the series. To this, Escayg implied that Nathan Drake’s was not the only storyline further explorable for future releases, as a number of characters, such as Cutter and Sully could form the basis of a completely new story. This time around, however, it was Chloe and Nadine’s time to shine; for now.
But now that the studio knows that the series can survive without Drake, is the Uncharted 5 release date a possibility? The answer is a yes, if we are to carefully consider Escayg’s answer. This is what he had to say: “I wouldn't say it's the end. This thieving world is huge. There's so many characters. Even before we settled on this particular story we were exploring Sullivan, we were exploring Cutter, and pairing each other up, thinking what would be right, what would have conflict, growth, something new, something fresh. And Chloe was the one that kept jumping out. But to say the Uncharted world is done... I doubt that highly.”
So there we have it. A couple of things are still shadowy about the prospects of a new Uncharted game: will there be a full-fledged game in the future that can finally boast of a number in the title (we are talking about Uncharted 5, of course)? Alongside that, we are also wondering if Naughty Dog will stick to what Neil Druckmann had said earlier about another studio taking over to create a new Uncharted spinoff. But now that Escayg has already acknowledged the likelihood of new games, we don’t see why there should not be a new full Uncharted entry created by Naughty Dog themselves. Now that we know that Uncharted 5 may be a glowing possibility, we wonder if we could see a brand new face being the protagonist or a returning one. But one thing is certain- that it will be a while before we see the game happening. After The Lost Legacy, the primary focus of Naughty Dog will undoubtedly be on The Last of Us Part 2. We suppose Uncharted 5, if it is on the cards, will happen well after that. you must need best gaming keyboard to play this game on your PC.
