Uncharted 5 Release Date: In trying to predict when a new game could come out, we usually tally the time of its announcement with how much time the developers have taken in the past to launch a new game in that specific series. But there are a number of complications in our pursuit of being able to predict an approximate Uncharted 5 release date. Part of that reason is that the game has not been announced yet. But that is the least of our problems.
The possibility of a new game in the Uncharted series has neither been confirmed and nor has it been denied. So the fate of the next game in the series essentially hangs in this strange kind of limbo. We like that Druckmann did not entirely throw the probability for a new game out the window, but the question is, does that confirm anything at all regarding the release date of Uncharted 5?
In short, the answer to that is, no. But what we're hopeful about (going by what Druckmann actually said) is that some great studio is going to pick up Uncharted 5 and work in close collaboration with Naughty Dog to get things right. No, we don't think the new game will be (if it happens, that is) very similar to the original ND games, but it will be worth seeing what an Uncharted game in the hands of another would be like. Another possibility is that if Naughty Dog themselves think about taking up the task of creating Uncharted 5. We know Druckmann has hinted otherwise, but drawing the close on one character's story opens up the possibility of exploring some of the others in more depth. Whoever decides to take up the responsibility of creating Uncharted 5, we know one thing for sure: that Naughty Dog's involvement in the next game will be essential. And then we move on to the next question: when?
Uncharted 5 Release Date
In all honesty, it is entirely unknown if Uncharted 5 will at all go into development in the near future. We know that Naughty Dog is super busy at the time with all the DLC they have planned for Uncharted 4 that will appear throughout the first quarter of 2017. One of these, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, has even gone on to become something akin to a standalone game, which is great news for Uncharted fans. This goes to show that despite what they have to say about Uncharted 5, they do have more story to tell, maybe just not yet. And then there is the recently announced The Last of Us 2, which will probably come out sometime in 2018, we think. So where does that leave Uncharted 5?
What is more is that Naughty Dog has recently stated the impossibility of getting a new game in the franchise once again. Even if we choose to look at the bright side, even then we don’t think Uncharted 5 will be turned into a reality anytime soon. “I would say that Naughty Dog doing an Uncharted after this is unlikely (…) It’d be hard. If we magically had that two-team, three-team studio, sure – it’d be great to keep doing it. We really love the franchise, but the studio has limited resources and lots of other ideas. I’d say the likelihood is low.”
So what do we make of all this? We know that the studio holds the franchise very dear, for being one of the first games from them to receive the kind of acclaim that it has. But at the same time, their explanation makes perfect sense. We do want The Last of Us part 2 to be a massive hit like its predecessor, and we also can’t wait to get our hands on The Lost Legacy. So will Uncharted 5 ever happen?
Well, we don't think Naughty Dog will be in a hurry with this one, for the future of the Uncharted series has to be handled rather carefully. If Naughty Dog does decide to continue with the series like before, then we don't see them starting work on it before 2018. And if they get someone else to do it, it could go into development even later. So considering all these factors, we don't hope to see or even hear anything substantial about Uncharted 5 Release Date before 2020. A PlayStation arrival is all but assured, but this time around the game could also come to other platforms, depending on who creates it.
What matters is that we believe that the Uncharted series, regardless of Naughty Dog’s plans for the present, is not coming to conclude any time soon. The best proof that we have of this is the release of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, which explores new characters, new places, new villains, and has gone on to win hearts immediately upon release. And going by what Escayg has said, there is plenty more of where that came from, thanks to the series’ rich history.
So yes, Uncharted 5 is not as much of a distant possibility as we may have thought initially. It also does not make sense for ND to just pull the shutters on a franchise that is still making them serious money. Another thing to consider here is the fact that the PlayStation 5 is currently cooking over at Sony. So it is also a possibility that the new game will be released for the new platform.
